What's the advantage of a twin pump station over a single pump system?

A twin pump station has two identical pumps rather than one, giving built-in resilience. If one pump fails or is undergoing maintenance, the second automatically takes over so the property keeps draining. This duty/standby arrangement is particularly valuable for sewage pumping stations serving a single household or small development where there's no mains gravity fallback.

What's the difference between duty/standby and duty/assist control?

In duty/standby mode, one pump does all the work and the second only kicks in if the first fails or can't keep up — this is the usual setup for domestic sewage and surface water stations. Duty/assist alternates the pumps and brings the second one in during periods of high flow, which suits sites with variable or heavy loading such as commercial premises or larger developments. Most twin pump control panels let you select which mode suits your site.

How do I size a twin pump station correctly?

Sizing depends on the number of properties or population equivalent served, the static lift (vertical rise from invert to discharge point), pipe run length, and whether you're pumping foul, surface water or effluent from a treatment plant.
