ATV FAQs

What are ATV tanks typically used for?

ATV tanks are compact water or chemical tanks designed to be mounted on quad bikes and other all-terrain vehicles. They're commonly used for weed spraying, crop protection, livestock watering, dust suppression and general agricultural or amenity use where access with a full-size bowser isn't practical. Many are supplied with mounting brackets or straps to suit standard ATV racks.

What size ATV tank do I need?

This depends on your ATV's payload rating and the job in hand — smaller tanks (around 100-200 litres) suit spot spraying and light duties, while larger units up to 400 litres or more are better for wider spraying runs or livestock watering. Always check your quad bike's maximum load capacity before choosing, remembering that water weighs roughly 1kg per litre plus the tank and pump. Overloading affects handling and braking, so it's worth erring on the side of caution.

Are ATV tanks made from the same material as standard water tanks?

Most ATV tanks are moulded from UV-stabilised polyethylene, the same durable, impact-resistant material used in many agricultural and water storage tanks. This makes them lightweight, resistant to cracking in cold weather and unaffected by most fertilisers and agrochemicals. Some come with baffles built into the design to reduce water surge when travelling over rough terrain.

Do ATV tanks come with pumps and spray equipment included?

This varies by model — some ATV tanks are supplied as a bare tank ready for you to fit your own pump, lance and fittings, while others come as complete kits with a 12V pump, spray gun and boom already installed. Check the product specification carefully before ordering if you need a ready-to-use spraying setup, as retrofitting can require additional brackets or wiring.

Can I use an ATV tank for storing chemicals rather than water?

Many ATV tanks are suitable for dilute agrochemicals such as herbicides and pesticides, but you should always check the manufacturer's chemical compatibility guidance before use, as some concentrates or fertiliser solutions can degrade certain plastics or seals. If you're handling anything hazardous, you'll also need to follow COSHH storage and bunding requirements even for small mobile tanks. When in doubt, contact us to confirm suitability for your intended use.

How do I fit an ATV tank securely to my quad bike?

Most ATV tanks feature a flat or contoured base with moulded-in fixing points or lugs designed to work with standard ATV racks, straps or bespoke mounting frames. It's important to secure the tank low and central where possible to keep the centre of gravity stable, particularly on sloped or uneven ground. If your quad doesn't have a compatible rack, a mounting frame or cradle is usually available separately.
