Marquee Weights FAQs

How many marquee weights do I need for my structure?

As a general rule, each leg or upright of a marquee or gazebo needs its own weight, with heavier weights used for larger structures or exposed sites. A small pop-up gazebo may only need 50kg weights at each corner, while a large event marquee in an open field is better secured with 150kg to 250kg weights, or 500kg on the windward corners. Always check the manufacturer's wind-loading guidance for your specific marquee before choosing weight capacity.

Are the weights delivered filled or empty?

Our marquee weights are supplied empty and are designed to be filled on site with water or sand, which keeps delivery weight and cost down considerably. Water filling is quicker and easier to empty afterwards, while sand gives a denser, more permanent fill for long-term or repeat use. Simply top up using a hose or bucket and drain down before onward transport.

What's the difference between the 50kg, 150kg, 250kg and 500kg options?

The figures refer to the filled weight (and equivalent litre capacity) of each unit, so a 250kg weight holds 250 litres of water or an equivalent volume of sand. Smaller 50kg and 150kg weights suit pop-up gazebos, market stalls and smaller frame tents, while 250kg and 500kg weights are intended for larger marquees and exposed or elevated sites where wind loading is greater. Choosing the right size depends on structure size, leg height and expected wind conditions rather than budget alone.

Can the weights be moved once filled?

Most of our marquee weights feature built-in handles and, on the larger 250kg and 500kg units, wheels, so they can be manoeuvred into position once filled without needing to be emptied first. That said, a filled 500kg weight is still substantial, so we'd recommend positioning it close to its final location before filling wherever possible. For frequent site changes, it's often quicker to drain, reposition and refill than to drag a full weight across uneven ground.

Do marquee weights need to be attached to the frame in a particular way?

Weights should be connected to the marquee leg or frame using suitable rope, webbing strap or a rated ratchet strap, ideally at the point specified by the marquee manufacturer rather than a random attachment point. The strap should be pulled taut with minimal slack so the weight can't shift or swing in gusting wind. If in doubt, follow the same attachment principles you'd use for guy ropes and ground stakes, just substituting the weight for an anchor point.

Are these weights suitable for outdoor storage between events?

Yes, our marquee weights are built with weather-resistant finishes and durable construction intended for repeated outdoor use, so they can be left outside between hires or events. We'd still recommend draining any water-filled units when not in use to prevent freeze damage in winter and to make handling easier. Sand-filled weights can generally be left as they are, provided the casing itself is checked periodically for wear.
