Sizing, regulations, installation. Our team has been answering these questions for over 25 years.

At Tanks Direct, you'll find our UK-manufactured GRP booster pump enclosures offer outstanding protection for your valuable pumping equipment in both indoor and outdoor settings. Our range includes options for single booster, twin booster, and triple booster sets, making them perfect for applications across domestic housing, commercial buildings, schools, factories, and numerous other installations. Each enclosure is manufactured using high-quality GRP materials, delivering exceptional protection against harsh environmental conditions while maintaining ease of access for maintenance.

Our GRP enclosures come with a choice of either 25mm or 50mm insulation thickness. While these units don't carry a specific IP rating, they provide excellent frost and weatherproof protection, shielding your equipment from wind, rain, and freezing conditions. The superior insulation properties ensure your pumping systems maintain optimal operating temperatures throughout the year, reducing the risk of weather-related failures and extending equipment life.

You'll find a range of shapes and sizes available, ensuring a perfect fit for your specific equipment configuration. These enclosures combine practical functionality with long-lasting durability, providing a cost-effective way to protect your investment in pumping equipment.

GRP Pump Enclosures FAQs

What is a GRP pump enclosure?

A GRP (glass reinforced plastic) pump enclosure is a weatherproof housing for booster pump sets, control panels and other plant. It shields equipment from wind, rain, frost and accidental damage, and helps pumps run at a steadier temperature. You can still get to everything easily for servicing.

What can I house in a GRP enclosure?

Our enclosures come in sizes for single, twin and triple booster pump sets. They're also used for:

  • Pump control panels and inverters
  • Valves, meters and pipework manifolds
  • Utility equipment such as gas meters, using our GRP meter boxes and roadside cabinets

How do I choose the right size enclosure?

tart with the overall footprint and height of your pump set, including its control panel, pressure vessel and any pipework that sits inside the enclosure. Then allow some extra room around the equipment so it can be serviced and air can circulate.

Measure against the enclosure's internal dimensions, especially on insulated models, because the insulation takes up some of the space inside. If you're unsure, send us your pump set's details and we'll recommend a size.

Are the enclosures insulated?

Yes. Many of our enclosures come with 25mm or 50mm insulation. Insulation keeps the temperature inside more stable, which protects pumps and pipework from frost in winter and from overheating in summer.

For exposed or very cold sites, 50mm insulation is usually the better choice. If temperatures stay below freezing for long periods, it's also worth adding a thermostatically controlled frost heater.

Can GRP pump enclosures be used indoors and outdoors?

Yes. GRP is weatherproof and UV-stable, so our enclosures suit outdoor use in gardens, car parks, plant areas and roadside locations. They work just as well indoors, in plant rooms and basements, where they add protection and security..

Why choose GRP over a steel or timber enclosure?

  • Doesn't rust or rot. GRP won't corrode like steel or decay like timber.
  • Lightweight but strong. It's easier to deliver and position, yet tough enough to resist impact.
  • Low maintenance. It doesn't need painting or treating.
  • Long lasting. It keeps its strength and finish for many years outdoors.

Which sites are GRP pump enclosures suitable for?

They're used on domestic, commercial and industrial sites, including homes, apartment blocks, offices, schools, hospitals, farms and factories. Anywhere a booster set or plant needs protecting, a GRP enclosure is a practical, cost-effective option.

How do I get access to the pump for maintenance?

Depending on the model, you get in through a single door or double doors. Choose double doors for larger twin or triple booster sets so you have full access to the equipment. The door type and any locking options are listed on each product page.

How do I get pipes and cables into the enclosure?

Entry points are usually cut on site, so you can put them exactly where your pipework and cables need to go. GRP cuts easily with a standard hole saw. Seal around every entry afterwards with a suitable sealant or gland to keep out water and pests.

How should a GRP enclosure be installed?

Install the enclosure on a firm, level base such as a concrete slab or plinth, and fix it down securely. This is especially important outdoors, where wind can move a lightweight enclosure. Leave enough space around it to open the doors fully, and make sure any vents aren't blocked.

Do pump enclosures need ventilation?

Pumps and control panels give off heat while they run, so good airflow matters, particularly for larger sets or sunny locations. Check the product specification for any ventilation, and make sure the enclosure is big enough for air to circulate around the equipment.

What are the KD roadside cabinets and GC meter boxes?

Our KD roadside cabinets are free-standing GRP kiosks with single or double doors. They house controls, meters, valves and small pump equipment. Our GC enclosures are GRP boxes designed for gas meters. Both are built from the same tough, weatherproof GRP as our booster set enclosures.

Can you supply a complete booster pump system?

Yes. As well as enclosures, we supply booster pump sets, break tanks and cold water storage tanks. Our team can help you specify a complete system that's sized correctly for your site. Get in touch and we'll put together a quote.

Can I get a custom-sized enclosure?

If none of our standard sizes fits your equipment, contact our team with your dimensions and requirements. We'll suggest the closest standard option or discuss whether a bespoke enclosure is possible.
