A well-functioning pump chamber is vital for efficient wastewater management in your property. At Tanks Direct, we understand the importance of keeping your pump chamber operating smoothly. Our comprehensive range of pump chamber spares and accessories are designed to optimise performance and prevent blockages.

We stock essential parts like pump chamber control panels, the brains of the operation. A faulty control panel can disrupt the entire pumping process, leading to potential overflows or equipment malfunctions. We offer replacements to ensure your pump chamber continues to function efficiently. Another crucial component is the pump chamber non-return valve, which prevents the backflow of wastewater into the property. Worn or damaged valves can compromise this vital function, so having replacements readily available ensures a smooth and uninterrupted pumping process.

Our pump chamber accessories will help enhance the functionality and safety of your pump chamber. Pump alarms are designed to notify you of potential issues like pump malfunctions or high-water levels, allowing for prompt intervention €“ minimising the risk of problems escalating.

Pump Chamber Accessories / Spares FAQs

How do I know if my pump chamber control panel needs replacing?

Common signs include the pump failing to start or stop correctly, tripping breakers repeatedly, or the alarm activating for no obvious reason. Corrosion inside the enclosure or a burning smell around the terminals are also clear indicators. If in doubt, get a qualified electrician to test the panel before assuming the pump itself is at fault.

What does a non-return valve actually do in a pump chamber?

A non-return (check) valve stops wastewater that has already been pumped out from flowing back into the chamber once the pump switches off. Without one in good condition, you'll get repeated pump cycling, increased wear, and in some cases sewage backing up towards the property. Valves should be inspected periodically as they can wear or seize, especially where solids are present in the effluent.

Do I need a pump alarm if my control panel already has one built in?

Many panels include a basic audible or visual alarm, but a separate high-level alarm gives an independent layer of protection if the panel itself fails. This is particularly important for chambers serving occupied buildings, where an undetected pump failure could lead to flooding or sewage backup. We'd recommend a standalone alarm as good practice, and it's often required by building control for certain installations.

Are pump chamber spares interchangeable between different manufacturers?

Not always — control panels, floats and valves are often matched to a specific pump chamber design or pump model, particularly around voltage, float switch configuration and valve bore size. Check your original documentation or the data plate on your existing equipment before ordering a replacement. If you're unsure, contact us with the make and model and we'll help confirm compatibility.

Can I fit a replacement control panel or non-return valve myself?

Non-return valves can generally be replaced by a competent installer familiar with the chamber's plumbing, provided the chamber is isolated and safely accessed. Control panels involve mains electrical connections and should only be fitted or wired by a qualified electrician, in line with Part P regulations. Getting this wrong risks pump damage, alarm failure, or safety issues, so it's not one to guess at.

How often should pump chamber accessories be checked or serviced?

As a general guide, alarms, floats and valves should be visually checked at least twice a year, alongside your routine pump chamber emptying and maintenance schedule. Properties with heavier usage, such as commercial premises or larger households, may need more frequent checks. Keeping spares like float switches and valves on hand reduces downtime if something does fail unexpectedly.
