Each kit bundles the energiser, fencing wire or tape, insulators, earth stakes, connectors and any required leads or clips into one package, all matched for compatibility. The one component we deliberately leave out is the 12V leisure battery, as this depends on how long you need the system to run between charges. Everything else is ready to install straight from the box.

Battery capacity (Ah) determines how long your energiser will run before recharging is needed — a higher-capacity battery gives longer runtime between charges, which matters if you're off-grid or checking the fence infrequently. Match the battery to your energiser's power draw and how often you can realistically get back to recharge or swap it. As a rule of thumb, a larger fence line or one you can't visit daily warrants a higher-capacity battery.

Both — the kits themselves are flexible enough for either use, but the wire or tape type you choose makes the difference. Permanent boundaries usually suit galvanised steel wire for durability, while polytape or polywire is better for temporary, movable strip-grazing setups. Check the specific kit description to see which conductor type is supplied.

Most kits are versatile enough for horses, cattle, sheep and smallholding livestock, though the required shock intensity varies by animal — sheep and pigs with wool or thick hide need a stronger energiser output than horses or cattle. Check the joule rating of the energiser in the kit against the animal type and fence length you're covering. If in doubt, oversizing the energiser is safer than undersizing it.

Our kits are designed around 12V leisure battery power, so no mains connection is needed — ideal for fields and paddocks without electricity. If you want to extend runtime without manual recharging, you can add a solar panel kit to trickle-charge the battery continuously. This is a popular option for remote fence lines that are impractical to visit regularly.

Coverage depends on the energiser's output joules and the fence type — longer runs, multiple wire strands, or wet/overgrown ground all reduce effective range, so check the stated maximum distance against your actual layout. Most systems can be extended later by adding more wire, insulators and joiners, provided the energiser has enough spare capacity to power the extra length. If you're planning to expand significantly, it's worth choosing a slightly more powerful energiser from the outset.
